2. Znaczenie oświadczenia dla zdrowia człowieka

The claimed effects are “fetal growth”, “neural tube development”, “neurological development in embryos ”, “growth and development and maintenance”, “brain development in the foetus”, “growth and development and maintenance of body functions” and “growth and development: Cod liver oil contains EPA and DHA (omega-3) that increase birth weight and growth rate”.
In the context of the proposed wording and the clarifications provided by Member States, the Panel assumes that the claimed effect refers solely to children’s development and health. The Panel notes that claims related to children’s development and health are outside the scope of Article 13 of Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006.
For IDs 490, 623 and 2898, the Panel notes that a health claim pursuant to Article 14 of Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 related to α-linolenic acid and linoleic acid and growth and development of children has already been assessed with a favourable outcome (EFSA, 2008).
