1. Charakterystyka żywności / składnika

The food constituent that is the subject of the claim is Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taubert. The characterisation of Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taubert is performed by comparing data provided as conditions of use to information extracted from standard reference textbooks (see Table 2 below and Appendix C for list of standard reference textbooks used for the characterisation).

The partsused is not specified, but it is assumed that it is the seeds. The daily amount is not specified and the information in the reference textbooks cannot be used to assume that it is the daily amount as these data reflect the use of the single constituent which in case of multibotanicals might not be applicable. The Panel notes that the consolidated list contains insufficient information to allow a characterisation of Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taubert.
The Panel notes that there is no information on the other components of the multibotanical preparation.
The Panel considers that the food constituent, Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taubert, which is the subject of the health claims, has not been sufficiently characterised.

2.2. Długotrwałe utrzymywanie prawidłowego stężenia glukozy we krwi (ID 2429)

The claimed effect is “blood glucose control”. The Panel assumes that the target population is the general population.
Blood glucose control is interpreted as the maintenance and/or achievement of normal blood glucose concentrations in the long term.
The Panel considers that long-term maintenance of normal blood glucose concentrations is beneficial to human health.

3.2. Długotrwałe utrzymywanie prawidłowego stężenia glukozy we krwi (ID 2429)

One reference was cited to substantiate the claimed effect. This reference was a monograph, which was not accessible to the Panel, even after every reasonable effort was made to retrieve it.
The Panel concludes that a cause and effect relationship has not been established between the consumption of Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taubert and long-term maintenance of normal blood glucose concentrations.
